Madagascar

A short video showcasing the work of Dr. Peter Balasky in Madagascar. His schools, libraries and attention to environmental and health issues have helped hundreds of children and communities around the country.

MADAGASCAR - The fourth largest island in the world.  Located in the Indian Ocean off the southeast coast of Africa, it’s uniqueness lies in the diversity of its people, the landscape and the unique animal species and natural resources.  The people of here speak Malagasy and French.  Madagascar exports 68% of all the Vanilla that is sold in the world, along with many natural minerals.  It's unique plant life has been essential in the creation of many medical cures.  Scientists from all over the world come to Madagascar to do research. We went to Madagascar to produce a documentary about humanitarian efforts to educate the children in depressed rural areas.  Our subject for this video was Dr. Peter Balasky, a prominent veterinarian from Davie, Florida in the United States. Aside from running his hospital (Balasky Animal Hospital in Davie, Florida USA), Dr. Balasky has spent more than a decade building schools and hiring local teachers to provide educational opportunities in remote villages and areas of Madagascar. The schools are free to whoever attends.  Dr. Balasky, through his non-profit organization “Friends of Madagascar”, built or reconditioned over fifteen schools throughout Madagascar so far, his favorite being the Green School in Miandrizato, near Sandrandahy in the central highlands.  Dr. Balasky is also involved in Conservation efforts and improving personal health in Madagascar. We flew into the capital city - Antananarivo, in the center of the island.  The pictures you see throughout this site are from that city and around the country.  It’s not too hard to fall in love with this place and its people, especially the children. On the Clips and Gallery menu pages you will see highlights of our journey.  We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and if you like what you see, you can contribute to our efforts by clicking on the DONATE tab at the top of any page.  I hope you enjoy your visit, and please watch our videos.  Thank you.
